At Tyneside Community Wood Shed, we are about much more than just woodworking. Based out of the Perth Green Community Centre in Jarrow, we are a vibrant social enterprise dedicated to improving local mental health, combating social isolation, and promoting overall well-being.

We provide a professionally equipped workshop for individuals over the age of 30 to learn new skills, dive into creative projects, and connect with a supportive community.

☕ No Pressure, Just Community: There is never any pressure to work here. Our kettle is always on, and members are incredibly welcome to just call in for a cuppa and a chat if that’s all they feel up to on the day. The daily banter alone is well worth the trip!

How Your Sponsorship Makes a Difference

To keep our doors open and accessible to as many residents as possible, we operate as a non-profit. We are looking for community-minded organisations to partner with us by sponsoring memberships.

The Membership & Equipment Package

For just £25 per month, you can fund a fully inclusive membership. This fee covers a comprehensive workshop safety induction, ongoing support, and full access to our professional-grade setup:

• Traditional Trade-Range Machinery: Table saws, pillar drills, a table router, and a wide variety of traditional hand tools.

• Power Tools: A comprehensive range of cordless tools.

• Modern Crafting Technology: Thanks to a generous grant from TT2, we now have a laser cutter and engraving machine, and we are eagerly awaiting the delivery of a new "hobbyist" CNC router to help members learn digital design skills!

 

Note on materials: While members typically supply timber for personal projects, the Shed often provides donated wood at a reduced price. If a member crafts an item for the Shed to sell at local funding sales, their materials are 100% free.

Full Transparency & Impact Reporting

We believe in accountability. If your organisation chooses to sponsor a member, we commit to providing transparent, measurable feedback so you can see the direct value of your investment. We provide:

• Monthly Progress Reports: Regular updates detailing attendance, participation, and engagement levels.

• Member Progress Folders: A personal record tracking newly acquired skills (such as tool competency) and project milestones.

• Impact Documentation: Heartfelt testimonials and photographic evidence of works-in-progress to demonstrate the positive social and personal impact on your sponsored individual.

Our workshop is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with experienced members always on hand to offer guidance.

💡 Tip: Our Saturday sessions are particularly quiet right now, making them the perfect day for a peaceful first visit!
